Briton Toby Marks, known in the music biz as Banco de Gaia, entered the electronica-alternative pop-rock scene in the late 1980s. Marks has created his own ornate sound with an engaging blend of Eastern/Arabic music blended over diffusive rhythmical thumps. Teaming up with Planet Dog Records (home of Eat Static) he released an EP, Desert Wind, in November of 1993. Since then he has toured with Emergency Broadcast Network, played gigs all over the U.K. and Europe and has headlined major dance festivals. His first album, Mayawas released in 1995. On his most recent release, Big Men Cry, he creates similar frenetic dance jams underscored by the industry's most innovative slapping bass lines.
