In 2003
Amanda Beard: World record holder and gold medalist in the 200m breaststroke, silver medalist in both the 100m Breaststroke and 4x100 medley relay at the World Championships in Barcelona, Spain. Swept both breaststrokes and swam the breast leg of the women's 400m medley relay at the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool … won her fifth U.S. National title, taking the 200m IM in a personal best at the CP Spring Nationals.
In 2002:
Amanda Beard, broke the American record in the 200m breast (scm) at the second World Cup stop … won the 100m and 200m breast at Pan Pacific Championships; swam the breast leg on the silver medal-winning 400m medley relay … won the 200m breast and was third in the 100m breast at the P66 Summer Nationals …silver medalist on American record-breaking 400m medley relay and was fourth in 100m and 200m breast, fifth in 100m IM and sixth in 50m breast at Short Course World Championships.
Currently resides in Tucson with her 2 dogs, 2 fish and attends the University of Arizona studying Retail and Consumer sciences. Enjoys interior decorating (in her new house) and can be found perusing local clothing boutiques. Sisters Leah and Taryn are swimmers. She turned professional in 2001, giving up her remaining two years of college eligibility in order to pursue swimming professionally. Amanda is also excited about expanding her involvement into other various activities such as appearances, the protection of endangered species, modeling, and other business opportunities.
