Alonzo Mourning is a seven-time NBA All-Star and Olympic gold medal-winner. Alonzo Mourning considers his greatest contributions to be off the court. While Alonzo Mourning's statistics cannot begin to describe the hard work and mental tenacity that Mourning put into his game, it is his dedication to charity work that is creating positive and lasting changes in the lives of children.
A winner of the NBA’s J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, honoring a player or coach for exemplary service, Mourning has focused his community involvement on becoming an outspoken advocate for youth initiatives and foster care programs that assist abused, abandoned and neglected kids. After being diagnosed with Focal Glomerulosclerosis, a degenerative kidney disease, at the start of the 2000-2001 season, Alonzo personally lead a campaign to raise $4 million dollars to aid in the research, education and financial relief to patients who can’t afford medication.
